VERSION 1.5 NOW AVAILABLE.
"Greetings!"
I've just added 6 new maps and the chapter 'Surface Tension' is now complete! Woohoo! I've fixed and improved some things too (mostly listed below), so overall this version (1.5) is a much more significant update compared to V1.4, and I feel like the final 3 maps of this update are some of the best work I've done yet on this game. To resume the game where the last version left off, press '4' on your keyboard at the main menu.
If you're downloading the game for free I ask that you please be kind and give me a review if you can spare the time! I would greatly appreciate it and it's very motivating knowing that people are enjoying my work, not just downloading the game and giving nothing in return. For all the hours I've put into making this project I only request you take a moment to leave a nice review! I'm not expecting you to write an essay praising it, but even just giving it a good rating would make my day and go a long way towards acknowledging the time and effort it takes to make something like this for you to enjoy for free.
Lastly, to support future development on this free game I've designed a t-shirt with graphics from the game, if you like it and can support my work with a sale I'd be very grateful. The small amount of profit made will help sustain finding the time to work on the project. You can see the design and buy the shirt over here: jimtendo32.square.site
Thanks for taking the time to look at this project, and I hope you enjoy the new levels! - Jim
Happy 27th Birthday Half-Life!
FIXES:
-Scrolling through the weapons HUD after selecting a grenade then left clicking a different weapon no longer releases a grenade.
-Collecting various gun ammo while grenades are equipped no longer changes HUD text to the unequipped weapons ammo.
-Newly unlocked weapons tutorials now update/disappear when the new weapon is selected through the HUD instead of the weapons number key needing to be pressed.
-Some enemies pain sound effects overlapped with their death sound effects and are now fixed (Houndeye & Bullsquid).
-Grenade explosions previously had no collision damage with some enemies, now fixed.
GAMEPLAY CHANGES:
-The 'Blast Pit' map 1 tram crash now ends with the player being launched into the air towards the radiation pool, tying in more closely with the original scene in Half-Life.
-Indestructible metal crates and breakable wood crates have been added to the 'Power Up' map 2 basement to slow players down and draw awareness to the instant kill electricity. Destruction Decals have been added to where the electricity strikes to make it even clearer.
-The Alien Grunt now fires the Hivehand at a slower rate, making it easier to evade their attacks.
-Helicopter health has been slightly nerfed.
COSMETIC CHANGES:
- A sand texture has been added to the 'Black Mesa Inbound' map 2 tram ride desert section.
-Physics on dead Bullsquids now have a more powerful knockback effect.
-In 'Blast Pit' the control panel art for 'test fire/oxy/fuel' has been remade and increased in size to make the writing more legible, the chamber roof is now angled to better represent the area, and the flame effect on the rocket engine in the silo now has added particle effects.
-Gargantua in 'Power Up' now has added death gibs and a tweaked explosion animation.
-A military radio has been added to 'Power Up' map 2.
-Graphics updated on the diving cage/Houndeye cages.
-The laser in the 'Questionable Ethics' basement all now have gradients added and have been moved back a layer.
-Graphics updated from radioactive barrels in 'Surface Tension' to normal barrels.
-Physics on dead Alien Grunts now have a better collision mask.
ROADMAP:
HIGH PRIORITY (ETA: IN THE NEXT YEAR)
-Implementing the final 7 chapters of the game and having the entire thing playable beginning to end.
-Grenade trajectory arc for aiming grenades to land in a specific spot.
MEDIUM PRIORITY (ETA: ONCE THE GAME IS FINISHED)
-Upon death have enemies drop weapons so less weapons are found randomly laying around.
-Secondary fire for the MP5 submachine gun with grenade rounds.
-HEV suit charger functional and a second pool of health on the HUD.
-Hard difficulty implemented: health chargers provide less healing, player takes more damage, enemy health increased.
-Possibly implementing a checkpoint system for an additional easier difficulty mode.
LOW PRIORITY (ETA: ONGOING)
-Further optimizing.
-Difficulty balancing.
-Explosions destroy wood crates.
-Explosive barrels, gibs and blood trails.
-Player walk sound effects on different surfaces.
-Revised enemy a.i, less stationary enemies.
-Additional set pieces added, extended and revised sections for some maps.
-Additional graphics improvements, textures, animations, getting the game running at a higher resolution and framerate.
-Implementing a 'pause' state for the game.
-Potentially adding a 'speedrun' mode with an inbuilt timer, and a statistics screen at the end of game, recording time/damage taken, bullets fired, enemies killed, etc.
-Creating 'console command' like cheats for health, all weapons, no clipping, etc.
